Small bathroom: proven ideas

February 2020
Even if the space of the room where your bathroom is located leaves a little to be desired, you can still create the perfect place for hygiene and relaxation. A small bathroom can be just the way you need it - and with our advice you can avoid a lot of problems.

Small bathroom: a shower enclosure or a bath?

In a small bathroom a bathtub can take up half the space and make it very difficult to arrange the rest of the room. Solutions such as the semi-circular shower enclosure are archaic and uncomfortable to maintain. Fortunately, there is another solution - a shower enclosure with a corner door. This saves space that would normally be reserved for opening the door, the shower enclosure has a regular shape and can often be larger than originally planned.

Small bathroom: choosing the colours

Everyone will tell you that light colors optically enlarge and dark colors reduce the room's surface area. That's true, but that doesn't mean you have to choose between light beige, light grey or white. Contrasting colour on one wall, for example the one behind the shower enclosure, is a good thing if accompanied by a large, bright surface on both sides. This way, a small bathroom will still look great. If you can, stick a mirror on one of the walls - the bigger the surface, the better. Another idea is a mirror in a decorative, contrasting frame. Remember, however, that the selected frame colour should be repeated in the selection of details. If the frame is gold, choose gold accessories.

Small bathroom: accessories

Most of us like bathroom trinkets - decorative boxes for swabs, soap and hand cream bottles, monstera leaf in a vase and the like. In a small bathroom they need to be particularly well thought out. Maybe instead of a collection of glass bottles it's better to mount soap bottle holders on the wall? An openwork shelf in the shower naturally limits the number of cosmetics kept there.

Instead of wall scones or chandeliers, energy-saving LED strips are a good idea - they're easy to install, stylistically neutral and provide uniform, natural light. And it's good to turn any narrow wall or under-sink into a shelf or cabinet for towels or cleaning products that you'd rather keep out of sight.
